Your rugs are in good hands when you choose Bailey’s Floor Care as your rug cleaners. We’ve been providing specialist rug cleaning in Northamptonshire and surrounding areas since 2000, and have fully cleaned and restored the rugs of thousands of happy customers. We treat all rugs individually, choosing a specific process that best suits the material and style, and will produce the best results without risk of damage.

At Bailey’s, we regularly restore a wide range of rug types, including Turkish, Moroccan, Pakistan, Indian, Afghan, Persian, Kilims, Chinese and silk. So, we know what works best for specific rugs. One rug cleaning service from the team at Bailey’s will not just improve the appearance and colour of your rugs – it will also prolong it’s life. When dirt becomes embedded into a rug, it will slowly wear down the rug’s fibres. This will results in a worn, aged and trodden appearance. Due to this, we make sure our rug cleaning services are thorough and clean not just the visible material, but the roots, too.

Bailey’s Rug Cleaning & Restoration Process

Over the past 15+ years of restoring rugs for clients, we’ve developed a detailed, step-by-step rug restoration process that delivers incredible results, every time.

1. PRE-INSPECTION:

To begin the process, we inspect each and every rug to check for any existing damage or stains. Soil often covers up dye lot variations, fibre staining, dye bleeding, worn areas and knots that then become apparent once the rug is cleaned. Some of these are damage that can possibly be repaired or reversed, while others are weaving characteristics (abrash & white knots).

2. DUSTING:

Once we’ve completed a pre-wash inspection, we can begin the rug cleaning process with a thorough dusting. Many rugs are capable of holding up to one pound of dirt per square foot before they even appear dirty. Dry dusting is an important first step to the wash process, as cleaning a rug that’s hiding large amounts of fine grit and dirt in the foundation creates mud, which is of course much tougher to clean. It’s this stage that removed all of the soil that can (and will) damage your rug over time. Our Rug Badger, a vibrating machine designed specifically for the cleaning of rugs, will beat out even the most deep and stubborn of soil and sediments.

3. CLEANING:

At this point, your rug will be tested for colourfastness. If the dyes are not colourfast, then the rug is prepared by setting the dyes. The rug will then be soaked in cold water and a mild shampoo, using soft brushes for mild agitation of the fibres. How long the rug is soaked for depends on how much surface soil needs to be removed from the fibres. The rug will then be thoroughly rinsed with water before being spun in our centrifuge spinner, which will remove up to 95% of the water it has absorbed. It’s important to get a rug dry as quickly as possible, as this reduces the possibilities of dye migration.

4. PROTECTOR

Once the rug has been cleaned, protector can be applied. This coats each fibre to in a protective barrier to repel landed soil and spillages. Spots and spills can be easily mopped up, as the protective layer prevents the fibre from absorbing.

5. DRYING

To thoroughly dry the rug, air movers are used without the use of high heat, so there is no risk of shrinkage. Our special drying room is always temperature and humidity controlled, ensuring safe and speedy drying. Following its first wash, it is typical for a rug to shrink slightly (less than an inch) in the same way cotton and wool clothing does. And, as with throwing wool or cotton in a high heat dryer, you know this shrinks natural fibres… this is why we dry our rugs the way we do.

6. FRINGE WORK AND FINISHING:

Fringes are washed an additional time after the bath, before being dried. The rug is given a final grooming with a horsehair brush before being carefully wrapped to ensure its cleanliness during transit. We will then deliver the rug directly to your home and unwrap it for you.
